Alexandra Zahn

Development Coordinator

📍 Long Island, NY

Alex Zahn started at Smile Farms in March 2025 as the Development Coordinator. She supports the fundraising and marketing initiatives to advance the organization’s mission of creating meaningful employment and educational opportunities for people with disabilities. She manages donor databases, oversees gift processing and acknowledgements, and generates reports to track the performance of the organization’s fundraising and stewardship efforts.

While handing donor stewardship and outreach, Alex plays a key role in planning and executing fundraising events, including Smile Farms’ annual galas and golf outings. She collaborates with stakeholders, event committees, and vendors to ensure seamless event execution and donor engagement.

Background & Experience:

  • Earned a B.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies (Mathematics, Economics, and Psychology) from Stony Brook University.
  • Previously managed SpayUSA: a national referral service and grant program to help and educate individuals about spaying and neutering their pets.
  • Managed around 125 active grants annually for the Feral Cat Grant Program: a national grantmaking initiative to provide funding for individuals to TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) any feral or unowned cats.
  • Proficient in donor database management, reporting, and event logistics with a background in grantmaking and nonprofit management.

Fun Fact:

Alex loves pets! Not only does she have a dog of her own (Layla), but she also has a small, independent pet sitting business. She offers in-home services for cats and dogs to make sure all fur-babies are kept safe, fed, clean, and (most importantly) loved while their family is away.
