My First Time At The Farm!

Hi everyone! My name is Devon McCann and I am interning this summer at Smile Farms. As a member of the McCann family, I wanted to intern here to get firsthand knowledge about Smile Farms and help in any way that I can. Growing up, my Uncle Kevin constantly raved about the farm in Moriches and the work he did there, so, I wanted to finally check it out myself. I immediately realized that I had underestimated the size of the farm all of these years. There were a lot more greenhouses than I had imagined and, therefore, a lot more plants! The employees were hustling and bustling to care for microgreens, hanging baskets, and potted plants. The bright colors, fresh smell, and smiling workers contribute to the farm’s overall positive and happy environment. I didn’t tell my Uncle Kevin I was coming that day, hoping to surprise him. Once he saw me he didn’t hesitate to give me a tray of plants and get me to work! As we walked around the greenhouses he pointed out all of the plants that he cared for and showed me all of the hard work he’s been doing. It’s clear that his job means a lot to him and is a source of pride. I had so much fun meeting all of my Uncle Kevin’s coworkers and checking out all of the cool exotic plants in stock. Seeing how seriously the employees take their work and how happy they are to go to the farm every day makes the work I do in the office feel that much more meaningful.
