Hola! Jason Levin here, President and Chief Gringo of Dos Gringos. We are a commercial flower grower based north of San Diego, California. Our hard-working team has dedicated almost 25 years exclusively to growing sunflowers. We selfishly think it’s the happiest flower on earth and is the ultimate smile-bringer. In addition to sunflowers we also contract grow about 20 other varieties that we use to hand assemble bouquets for grocery stores and e-commerce companies like 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. Earlier this year, when we were hit with the COVID-19 Pandemic, we lost 50% of our business in 48 hours. That left us not only missing sales, but with thousands of sunflowers in the fields with no home. They were destined for the dump or just to be left in the fields to die.
When I happened to reconnect with longtime customer and friend, Julie McCann from 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc., I mentioned to her that we had thousands of sunflowers in the field with no home and I would rather donate them and try to bring a smile or three than watch them die. Julie was awesome (as always) and had many ideas for me. One of those was to do a pop-up sale with Smile Farms. I was so impressed to learn all the of the amazing things they do and the story of where it all began. We were thrilled to donate to an organization whose mission aligns so well with ours. We believe that every company needs a reason for being, beyond making money. Our reason for being is to bring smiles to millions and make flowers part of everyday life.
We quickly came up with a plan to get them from California to New York and we were off and running, both working our mission to deliver smiles. We donated 1,500 Smiles, I mean Sunflowers, for this event. It was such a gift for myself, and our team, to see so many people smile and at the same time help Smile Farms, Inc.
We are grateful to have the chance to work with Smile Farms and look forward to doing more to help deliver more smiles.
